Conservation

The club has been involved in conservation since it's formation back in 1957. Our main conservation projects were Aldsworth pond, Peter's pond, Stanstead Lake, West Ashling pond, Fishbourne and Cobnor.

Over the years, we have won conservation awards and our main expertise has helped many colleges and universities. It has taken many man-hours and also many years to attain the results that we have achieved today.

The projects we are currently working on are Peter's pond, Fishbourne pond and the Fishbourne sea wall. The conservation team carries out regular work parties on these valuable wetland areas. It should also be emphasised that none of our conservation areas are shot over and that the CHWA also warden these sites on a regular basis.

A secondary, but equally important aspect of our conservation work is to generate information and photographic evidence from our projects which can be utilised by the public relations team when promoting and defending CHWA and wildfowling in general.

Harbour Management

The association has in the past been involved in projects within the Harbour, for instance the renovation of a section of a sea wall at Cutmill creek; this was a high profile site adjacent to the main road. With more assistance from the membership we hope to expand our activities in the Harbour in the future.

In the past we have assisted the Chichester Harbour Conservancy with the wardening of several little Tern colonies during the summer months. We have also organised and carried out very successful litter clearances when circumstances have demanded.
